Getting People Right

This is the 5th edition of this book.

H. Arne Maus provides valuable and practical insights into the way we think – and how we can better understand other people. Why do people behave the way they do? And how do managers and executives really differ – not only in their function, but also in their patterns of thought and behaviour?

Using the concept of Cognitive Intentions, the author shows how deeply rooted thinking preferences influence professional situations – and how beneficial it can be to take these into account when selecting employees. The goal: the right person in the right place. This not only increases efficiency in the workplace, but also satisfaction in teams, departments and organisations.

While these Cognitive Intentions are mainly discussed in a professional setting, they can easily be applied to personal situations.

A central theme of the book is the distinction between motivation and commitment. While motivation is often understood as a short-term impulse, commitment goes deeper – and can be measured today. The results impressively demonstrate the influence that committed employees have on productivity and the working atmosphere. At the same time, concrete starting points are presented for promoting commitment in a targeted manner – supported by practical examples.

The book is aimed at managers, HR managers, coaches and trainers. It helps them to assess people more precisely, make more profound decisions and develop individual potential in a targeted manner – for sustainable success in counselling, leadership and cooperation.
